Geochemical Studies
Chemical analysis of surface geothermal fluids yields an estimate of the likely temperature of the reservoir, and provides insights into boiling processes, fluid flow paths, and fluid origins.
The geochemical laboratory is equipped for analyses of:
- geothermal solutions
- cold water
- gases
- steam
- drill hole cuttings
- scale deposits
- whole rock samples
Geochemical equipment includes:
- Atomic absorption spectrometer
- Ion chromatograph
- Gas chromatograph
- Automated titrator
- X-ray diffractometer (XRD)
- ICP-MS TOF, jointly owned with the Icelandic Institute of Technology and several other research institutes.
- Scanning electron microscope (SEM), jointly owned with the Icelandic Institute of Technology.
